The Red Oak, more specifically the Northern Red Oak, is a native oak that provides good value to wildlife. Its acorns are not usually the first option in fall due to their high tannin content but they still play an important role. Red oak acorns passed over early in the season stay on the ground and provide a great late season food source when everything else is gone. This is a great asset for those who want to ensure they have plenty of late season food source for their deer.
Red oaks can adapt to many conditions and are very easy to grow. They grow quickly, often as fast as 2ft per year. They are very adaptable to clay soils and marginal areas.
Plant each tree with one of our Survival Kits (a Tree Pro tube and a slow-release fertilizer block), follow our planting instructions, and it’s covered by our 1-Year Survival Guarantee. Full details here.
