You're making an investment in your land — protect it. Each kit has a Tree Pro tube and a slow-release fertilizer block for one tree. The tube keeps deer and rabbits off and can double your growth rate; the fertilizer feeds the tree through its first season. Plant with a kit, follow the Growing Guide, and your trees are covered by our 1-Year Survival Guarantee.

Orders placed now are for Spring 2027 shipment

We take orders in advance and ship at the proper time for spring planting in your region — mid-December in the Deep South through the end of May up north. Pick your state under "When Will My Order Ship?" below and you’ll see your exact ship dates.

Get your order in now, we sell out early every season!

All the same traits that make our Hybrid Chestnuts great with one added bonus, a late season drop time. These trees have been selected to drop Nov-late Dec allowing you to offer your deer chestnuts well into the late season when all others have already been mopped up. Late in the year most acorns and other hard mast has already fallen and deer have fewer options which just compounds the drawing power of these trees. If you’ve seen the drawing power of other chestnuts, just wait till you see how attractive these late dropping trees can be.

Blight resistant, bears in just 2-5yrs, extremely palatable nuts, fast growing, and easy to grow. Add some to your order today and extend your chestnuts into the late season.

Plant each tree with one of our Survival Kits (a Tree Pro tube and a slow-release fertilizer block), follow our planting instructions, and it’s covered by our 1-Year Survival Guarantee. Full details here.

Questions we get about Late Drop Hybrid Chestnut

This tree

November through late December. By then most acorns and other hard mast have been mopped up and deer have fewer options, which compounds the drawing power of these trees. It's the same hybrid as our regular Hybrid Chestnut, selected for late drop.

Yes, that's our recommendation: plant them in equal numbers, at least 2 of each. Hybrid Chestnuts drop September into early November, Late Drops pick up in November and carry into late December. Together you've got chestnuts on the ground through the whole season. They also pollinate each other, so you need at least two trees either way.

2–5 years from planting, same as our regular Hybrid Chestnuts. Fast growing, blight resistant, and easy to grow.

Zones 4b–9, roughly Northern Michigan to Central Florida. Full sun and well-drained soil (pH 4.5–6.5); they don't like wet ground.

Yes. These are American × Chinese hybrids (Castanea dentata × mollissima, the variety commonly called Dunstan), bred for blight resistance and grown by most commercial chestnut growers. It's the same variety we grow in our own orchard in Cherokee, AL.

We don't ship on the day you order. We take orders in advance and ship at the proper time for spring planting in each region — from mid-December in the Deep South through the end of May up north. Pick your state below to see your exact window. Orders placed after your region has already shipped go out within 5–10 business days.

A Tree Pro grow tube and a slow-release fertilizer block for one tree. The tube protects the seedling from deer and rabbits and can double its growth rate; the fertilizer block feeds the tree through its first growing season. Every tree we ship is already inoculated with beneficial mycorrhizae, so there's nothing else to add — plant it in the kit, follow the Growing Guide, and it's covered by our 1-Year Survival Guarantee.

Plant with a Survival Kit and we guarantee the tree for a full year. If a tree dies within one year of the day it's delivered, we'll issue you store credit for what you paid for it. You don't have to worry about spending your money on something that may or may not make it.

To be covered, plant each tree with one of our Survival Kits (a Tree Pro tube and a slow-release fertilizer block), keep the tube on, and follow our planting instructions. Email us photos and your order number within a year of delivery.

The Whitetail Hill difference

5 things we do that other nurseries don't.

We ship when it's time to plant

Not the day you order. Your trees go out in the spring planting window for your region — southern states first, then north as the ground thaws. You get an email with tracking before they leave the farm.

Sized to survive the move — on purpose

Everybody wants a bigger tree. We've planted thousands of both, and the smaller one wins. Ours ship at one year old, sized by variety, with a root system built to take off. A tree that size roots in fast and grows. A big tree spends its first two seasons recovering from the move, and often never catches up.

Only trees that earn a spot on hunting land

We're hunters. Every one of our 30+ varieties is picked for what it does for deer: when it drops, how hard it draws, whether it produces every year, and whether it'll grow on the rough ground food plots sit on. If it doesn't help you kill deer, we don't sell it.

We're here after the sale

Planting questions, a tube that blew over, a tree that's slow to leaf out — call or text 256-415-4085, weekdays 9–5, or email contact@whitetailhill.com. A real person answers.

Backed by our 1-Year Survival Guarantee

Plant it with a Survival Kit and follow the Growing Guide, and we guarantee every tree we ship for a full year from delivery. You won't find that from other nurseries.

Got my “late drop” chestnuts planted, I was very happy with the way they were packaged roots were moist and the quality of the trees was good. Planted among some trees from last year in hopes of creating a stand of chestnuts in the middle of the farm.
